Mission Statement
Mercy Christian Fellowship exists to proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God with power, to establish a citywide community of believers, to mature them in the knowledge of God and in good works, to pray and worship unceasingly, and to mobilize workers and resources for the building up of the body of Christ worldwide.
History
In the summer of 1979, a small group of people began meeting in a home in the Conroe area, praying that God would send them a pastor. Meanwhile, Michael and Denise Walsh were in California seeking God as to where they should go, since the Lord was leading them to start a church. The Lord sovereignly put the parties together and the Walsh family arrived in Texas on October 30, 1979. Exactly one year later, the church moved into their new building that was purchased from Groceville Baptist Church.
When it became apparent that the church had outgrown its facility, we began praying that God would provide a new location. In response to our prayers and in keeping with God’s purpose for the church, He moved on the heart of one man to donate 1.6 acres of land with a metal building on it. In January of 1990 we began having Sunday worship in the new facility and changed our name from Piney Woods Christian Center to Christ the King Church.
On April 22, 2001 we began two new congregations: one in The Woodlands called Sanctuary Church and one in East Montgomery County called The Father’s House.
On April 17, 2003 we adopted the name Mercy Christian Fellowship to identify the single church body that includes all the congregations and related ministries.
On March 30, 2008 Sanctuary Church moved its Sunday morning meeting out of the church building and into homes. It is now known as the MCF House Church Network.
Beliefs
We believe that there is one God, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 8:4; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Timothy 1:17).
We believe that the Bible is God's written revelation to man and that it is verbally inspired, authoritative, and without error in the original manuscripts. (Matthew 5:17-18; John 17:17; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, death on the cross to provide for our redemption, bodily resurrection and ascension into heaven, present ministry of intercession for us, and His personal return to earth in power and glory. (Matthew 1:23; 24: 30; Mark 16:19; John 1:1; Acts 1:11; 2:22-23; 1 Corinthians 15:4; Colossians 2:9; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17; Hebrews 4:15; 7:25; 1 Peter 3:18; 1 John 1:7)
We believe in the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit, that He performs the miracle of new birth in an unbeliever and indwells believers, empowering them to manifest Christ in the earth. We believe that all the gifts of the Holy Spirit are operational in the church today. (Mark 16:17-18; Acts 5:3-4; 1 Corinthians 2:10-11; 6:19; 12:1, 4-12; Ephesians 4:30; 5:18; Galatians 5:16, 22-23; Titus 3:5)
We believe that those who practice sin will not inherit the Kingdom of God but will endure eternal punishment together with Satan and all his angels. (Matthew 7:21-23; 25:41; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; Ephesians 5:5-6; Galatians 5:21, 24; 1 John 3:10; Revelation 20:15)
We believe that salvation, the gift of God, is provided solely by His grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Turning from sin in repentance, looking to Christ and His vicarious death, man is born anew into eternal life by the Holy Spirit. (Mark 1:15; Acts 2:38; Romans 5:1; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:4-7)
We believe that the church is commissioned to proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God throughout all the earth and will mature in love, unity, and power before Jesus returns (Matthew 24:14; John 17:11-23; Romans 16:20; 1 Corinthians 2:4-5; 4:20; Ephesians 3:19; 4:13-15; Colossians 1:28).
